Events Update!

The events calendar has just been updated and we’ve got a lot going on;

  • Our new green lanes officer has wasted no time on putting dates in the diary, although exact routes always need to be confirmed nearer the time as weather & conditions allow. Check the events calendar for dates.
  • We’ve got play days booked right through to 2026, including a long-awaited return to Slab Common in Bordon and our Free January 1st play day.
  • Plans are afoot for an epic trip to Morocco in 2027, it’s a lot of planning and prep hence the long lead-time, check out the details here.
  • The annual club BBQ social is approaching so grab the burgers and come along!
  • We’re back on Youtube – Mike has been busy and made the first upload to our Youtube channel for quite some time, hopefully the first of many. If you have any photos or video you’d like to share please contact us!

Wednesday Weather Warnings

There is a yellow weather warning in place on Wednesday 1st Jan for strong winds in the south of England, however since the risks are listed as small / slight we will be going ahead with our free play day.

We will of course keep an eye on things and update if anything changes – but as of the time of this post the event is still going ahead as planned.

We hope to see you all at Mannington tomorrow!

Social, AGM and a free drink!

Yes this Thursday 2nd May is the club AGM as well as being the usual social – and by way of thanks for members who turn out & join in the voting we are giving a FREE drink to each member attending – so make sure you’re paid up and ideally bring your membership card with you!

We are always looking for volunteers to help with the running of the club, the more helpers we have the better the club runs and the more stuff we can run for everyone. You don’t need special knowledge or a tricked up vehicle, just being able to help out for a couple of hours a month could really help so please do shout if you’d like to be more involved in club activities.

The social is in the usual location – the King Rufus at Chandlers Ford, we will be in the function room from about 7.30pm onwards, arrive any time.

Free drinks are by tokens handed out on the night, one token per current paid-up member, and redeemable at the bar for a regular drink (for example a pint of beer or a coke). It’s first-come-first-served, when we run out of tokens that’s it. You can’t use your token to buy the most expensive whisky in the place, sorry. Tokens have no cash value. Tokens are not edible.

Seven Sisters 2019 – Fantastic Weekend!

Huge thanks to everyone that attended Seven Sisters 2019. We had a fantastic turnout and despite the weather, the event has to be one of the best yet!

We had a great group of people with plenty of light hearted banter especially towards Chris Powell. Chris’s interesting parking techniques Saturday morning tested the experience and knowledge of our marshals. (Checkout the photos of the red Discovery 2)The recovery was successful and handled safely by all. This hill will now been known as Chris(‘s) Hill 🙂

In other news, we had a few breakages and the most impressive one has to go to Josh Creffield. Josh managed to blow the rear diff in his Discovery 2 Saturday afternoon. They began the diff replacement at 4:30pm. By 7:10pm Josh was back up and running ready for the night event.

We had a very impressive variety of vehicles from Freelander’s and Suzuki’s through to heavily modified L200’s and some awesome challenge trucks! Of course not to forget all the varieties of Land Rover Discovery’s, Defender’s and a smart looking Range Rover Classic

We would also like to mention our regular Summer & Seven Sisters attendees Neil, David, Adrian, Gavin and Dale, who’s continued support over the years at all our events is always appreciated.

We are slowly sorting through all our photos and videos from the weekend. Feel free to send your photos into photos@shirelrc.com and we will post them on our Instagram and Facebook page for all to see.

Thanks again and watch this space for our 2020 dates!

Green Laning WhatsApp Group

Our Green Lane Officer Arran has set up a Shire WhatsApp group for green laning. This will be used alongside the usual channels to organise green lane days and weekends. Some of the events will be spur of the moment / short notice trips and as some people don’t tend to visit the Facebook group, its a quick and easy way to communicate and discuss green laning events.

Contact Arran on greenlanes-north@shirelrc.com to be added to the group.

Thanks for another great Seven Sisters!

Big thanks to everyone who made the trek to Wales for our Seven Sisters off-road weekend, it was a blast and we hope to see you again next time!

Speaking of which – we’ve got dates for next year, put these in your diary:

Summer Sisters – 22nd-23rd June 2019

Seven Sisters – 28th-29th September 2019

Online bookings for Summer Sisters 2019 will open soon!

We’d also like to thank everyone for putting pennies in the charity tin for teas & coffees in aid of Hampshire & Isle Of Wight Air Ambulance, along with the donation from the entry fee we raised over £220 in a weekend so a big pat on the back to you all!

A busy October – club news!

After a bit of a break over the summer hols we’ve got a busy October coming up!

Events

The next club “pub” social is on Thursday 4th October at the Empress of Blandings, everyone’s welcome to pop along and have a chat whether you’re a current member or not.

On Sunday 14th we’re back at the popular Bunny Lane site in Romsey for a play-day.

The weekend of the 27th-28th we’re off to Wales for a weekend of playing at the huge and brilliant Walters Arena, a site with something for everyone and every vehicle. You can book tickets & camping online now!

Volunteers needed!

Some of you may have seen on our Facebook page that some of the committee are intending to step down at the next AGM in May;

Christine, our long-serving / long-suffering Club Secretary has decided to hang up her notebook after more years than it would be polite to count. A huge thanks to Christine for all she’s done for the club over the years.

Gary and Kim Clark are also stepping down from their roles as Events Officer and Newsletter Editor / PR respectively due to work and family commitments. Again, a huge thanks to both of them for their input to the club.

This does mean we have some positions vacant on the committee if you’d like to get involved and help out – it doesn’t need a huge commitment to make a big difference to the running of the club so please do contact us if you’re interested in helping out in any way at all.

Membership Management

To all members,

We are using a new system to manage club membership.

The system will send out automated email reminders so no need to try and keep track of when your membership expires!

And you can now also amend your own membership details online.

The links to join, renew or manage your membership are on the right hand site of the club website and look like this:

If you have recently renewed your membership please ignore any reminder emails you may receive whilst we get the new system running.

If you are unable to access you membership details, please contact us with your full name and email address.
